BISD Board unveils new meeting format
BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
The superintendent and the board of trustees for the Beaumont Independent School District met to discuss agenda items at the following meeting. Its part of a new format.
The trustees also discussed a potential change in board meeting policies they decided to move forward with at the last meeting.
I've got pulse from the community that said that black and white community and others,'Why now? Why from 3.5 to 2.5? Why from 45 to 30 and so I'm bringing their concerns back,' said board president Woodrow Reece.
Those of us that worked on the policy though feel confident that the amount of time that has been allocated is sufficient, but of course we're willing to look at how time has been utilized in the past, said trustee Zenobia Bush. We're going to ask for details around past meetings, and the amount of time that's been spent and then make adjustments if necessary based on that.
Among other things, the board voted 4-3 last Thursday in the first reading of the new policy to cut the public comment section of the meeting from 45 minutes to 30.
They also voted to reduce the time speakers have from 3.5 minutes to 2.5.
They did not conduct the second reading of the new regulations, but plan to do so at the next board meeting.
If they approve the plan, the new rules will be in place at the following meeting.
