Man sentenced for taking his niece hostage, assaulting police officer
A Port Arthur family watched their loved one walk away in shackles and chains this morning and are pleased with the judge's decision.
Judge John Stevens sentenced 29 year old Walter Ryan Moore to three 15 year sentences for taking his niece hostage and assaulting a police officer.
The SWAT stand-off lasted nine hours. It happened in December of 2012 at Moore's mother's home located on 61st Street in Port Acres.
Moore admitted he was wrong when he took his two year old neice hostage.
It slowly came to an end after Moore traded some of his weapons which included shotguns and a rifle for cigarettes and chicken nuggets for the child.
His parents and aunts were in the courtroom today. They said his actions that day were because of his drug addiction.
Moore has to serve half of his 15 year sentence before he is eligible for parole.
