Bone marrow donor registration drive takes place

BEAUMONT - For some local resident, a trip to the mall Saturday included more than shopping.

Some people stopped by the "Be the Match Bone Marrow Compatibility Search and Life Share Blood Center Drive" in Parkdale Mall, to get placed on a registry.

Donors for the bone marrow registration drive filled out paperwork and swabbed for DNA, which will determine if they are a match for someone who needs a bone marrow transplant.

Saturday's bone marrow donation registration drive was inspired by Beaumont cardiologist Dr. Steven Sooudi who suffers from cancer.

The people who signed up to be placed on the bone marrow donor registry will remain on it until their 61st birthday.
