Statement from Kirbyville CISD following termination of bus driver
Yesterday evening, the Kirbyville Consolidated Independent School District administration was notified that one of its school buses had been involved in a one vehicle accident. There were no children on the bus and there were no other vehicles or persons involved in the accident.
The driver of the school bus was transported to a local hospital to be examined for injury. In accordance with federal and state law and District policy, the driver was subjected to mandatory drug and alcohol tests at the hospital.
District officials were informed later in the evening the driver had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Kirbyville Police Department have done an outstanding job investigating this matter thus far. The Kirbyville CISD has and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials throughout the remainder of their investigation. The driver has been relieved of her duties.
The District wants to assure all its parents and students that it does not tolerate this type of behavior and that the safety of KCISD students is of paramount importance. Every District official is thankful that there were no students on board and there were no significant injuries resulting from this unfortunate event.
