TEA investigators finishing day one of probe into BISD
Investigators from the Texas Education Agency are finishing Day 1 of their probe into the Beaumont school district, but not without providing some details into what the other days will look like.
We already know the organization is looking into the district's attendance records, finances, test security, special education program and overall governance but we're also learning a second case of possible cheating is under investigation.
A representative wouldn't go into much detail on the nature of the claim of cheating, but did say the TEA is looking into a violation of security procedures for a specific test during the 2013 testing cycle.
This is a separate incident from the one that took place at Central in 2012. The district found a substitute teacher provided unallowable assistance to a student during state testing. But as we're told it's not the only thing under investigation.
The TEA is looking at attendance records, governance, the special education program and finance.
Here's a breakdown of what exactly they're looking into.
- Reviewing attendance documents maintained by the campuses and the data submitted to the TEA.
- Reviewing the day to day operation of the district and confirm state laws and local board policies are being followed.
- Reviewing how the district identifies students in need of special education and whether the needs of those students are properly being met. The spokesperson says.. that will likely include talking to parents.
- Reviewing how the district follows its financial accounting practices and state and federal program requirements on contracts and purchasing.
