"Link" between aggravated robberies; Jury selected
BEAUMONT - Two robberies: One outside a busy shopping center and the other in the parking garage of Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth.
In each case, the attacker fired shots at the ground while struggling to steal a woman's purse.
Prosecutors say there is a link between both crimes, his name, Ronald Lee Young Senior.
Young's trial for the Target robbery began today.
Attorneys in Judge John Stevens court picked a jury this afternoon. Testimony begins tomorrow In the aggravated robbery trial of 48 year old Ronald Lee Young Senior.
KFDM News obtained court documents in which a Beaumont police officer said young had been lurking in the Target shopping center parking lot November 15th of last year.
Investigators say young noticed a young woman walking to her car that night. The 25 year old woman told police that just as she unlocked her car, a man pointed a gun at her.
The woman said the attacker ordered her to give him her purse. They struggled and she tried to hold onto the purse. During the struggle, the man's gun went off and a bullet struck the ground. The attacker ran away. The woman wasn't hurt. She chased the man but couldn't catch him.
Police gathered evidence outside target while they also searched for the robber.
Officers showed the woman a photo lineup with six men. They say she identified this man, Ronald lee Young Senior. As the man who attacked her.
KFDM took video on November 30th of last year, After police arrested young at a Beaumont apartment complex and brought him to the police station.
The woman said she's 100 % sure Young is the man who fired the shot and took her purse.
If the jury convicts young of the robbery outside Target, he could face up to life in prison.
Testimony begins Tuesday morning at nine.
Young is also charged with aggravated robbery for a similar crime
November 28th of last year in the parking garage of Christus hospital Saint Elizabeth.
Police say he confronted a woman, stole her purse and fired one shot at the ground. She wasn't hurt.
