Hearing to be held Monday addressing November board election
A court hearing Monday could be the final word on whether voters go to the polls next month for a Beaumont school board election.
Monday Judge Donald Floyd will hold a hearing during which an attorney for BISD is expected to ask that judge Floyd cancel the election.
Yesterday an appeals court ruled that a November board election would violate state law because it would not be a joint election with the city, county or state. The planned election had only one contested race for the seat held by Janice Brassard.
The appeals court ruled that when BISD holds an election it should use a plan voters approved calling for five single member districts and two at large seats.
Early voting is set to begin Monday so both sides need a quick decision.
