Power outages leave many in the dark
BEAUMONT- by Haley Bull
Heavy rain left some Southeast Texans in the dark on Halloween. Entergy reported pockets of power outages throughout Hardin, Jefferson and Orange Counties.
A spokesperson for Entergy said crews would be out working until the lights were on. At the peak of the storm this morning, the spokesperson said at least 2,000 Entergy customers were powerless in Jefferson County alone.
More than 100 Entergy workers battled through the pouring rain restoring power Thursday. An Entergy spokesperson said some trucks had difficulty getting around flooded roads.
Residents in one Beaumont neighborhood that experience power outages said they haven't seen weather like Thursday's rain in a while.
"I've been living here 8 years and I haven't seen this type of weather in, since the storms really. The weather hasn't been, such, you know, so bad since that. But it's really bad today," Sandra Valery said.
For others in Valery's neighborhood, outages made for a spookier Halloween.
"I'm a little worried about not having electricity on Halloween night, it seems a little scary, but hopefully we'll be alright," Cat Morrison said.
