BISD trustees to seek help from 172nd Court

BEAUMONT - Members of the Beaumont Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet in less than 24 hours to vote to ask the 172nd district court to cancel the November 5th election.

According to an  order released Thursday, from the 9th court of appeals. a November election the school board approved should not take place.

Thursday's court ruling said the election would violate state law because it would not be a joint election with the city, state or county.

It goes onto say Texas law does not allow a trial court to prohibit the election, even if it is later determined that the election was conducted in violation of Texas law.

At Monday's meeting, Board members will vote to ask Judge Floyd's court to cancel the November 5th election.

They also plan to vote to ask to reschedule the election if it cannot be canceled.

At last Thursday's board meeting, Board president Woodrow Reece told KFDM he thinks some healing is starting to come about from the recent decisions and rulings.
