BISD students to appear on the Queen Latifah Show

BEAUMONT - Three Beaumont teens have traveled to the West Coast to represent BISD on a national talk show.

Two high school seniors and a graduate loaded a bus Wednesday morning for a ride to Houston, where they caught a flight to Los Angeles to appear on the Queen Latifah Show.

Dylan Adkins, Justin Le and Rose Wright were chosen to represent the area after BISD collected more than $13,000 following Hurricane Sandy and donated the money to a New Jersey High School.

A camera crew from the show came to Beaumont a few weeks ago, but Queen Latifah wanted to meet the students in person.

The students say while they didn't collect the money for the recognition, the idea of meeting a celebrity is exciting.

The New Jersey school that received the money turned out to be the school that Queen Latifah attended where her mother taught.
