Bailiff announces he is running for district clerk in Jefferson County

A bailiff has announced he's running for district clerk in Jefferson County.

Stanley Hatcher made the announcement this afternoon at the Bernsen Law Firm in Beaumont.

Hatcher ran against Lolita Ramos once before and lost. Ramos is the longtime incumbent.

David Bernsen says Ramos told him she is not running for re-election.

Hatcher plans to file for next year's democratic primary. He says his experience as a bailiff for Judge Mickey Shuffield.will help him.

David Bersnen says Ramos told him several months ago that she's not running for re-election.

KFDM News spoke with a sister of Ramos Wednesday. She said Ramos has battled cancer since January. She recently had surgery at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.  Her sister says Ramos is doing well.

Ramos' sister Anita Ramos Kiker says Ramos has not made them aware of plans to retire and not run for re-election.

Ramos' sister told KFDM News the district clerk has not endorsed anyone in the event she decides not to run for re-election.
