Hazardous material spill cleaned at Jirou and Ashley
Beaumont Fire Rescue received a report of several containers of an unknown material around 11:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Jirou Street and Ashley Street, Captain Brad Penisson said.
When fire units arrived at the scene they found four five gallon containers on the ground west of the intersection and three of the containers had spilled an unknown substance, Pennison said.
The Beaumont Fire Rescue Hazardous Materials Response Team secured the containers in an "overpack" drum and turned them over to Texas Environmental Resources for disposal, Pennison said.
Texas Environmental Resources personnel were then able to clean up the surrounding soil, Pennison said.
The substance was identified as Tretrolite, a corrosive material, and units finished on the scene shortly before 4 p.m.
