Two arrested in killing of Katy student in birthday party shooting
CYPRESS, Texas - by KHOU 11 News and www.khou.com
Two men were arrested Monday morning in connection with Saturday night's deadly mass shooting at a house party in Cypress that left two dead and 19 others injured, deputies said.
A massive house party advertised on Twitter turned violent when two teenagers were shot to death and 19 others were injured late Saturday in northwest Harris County, deputies said.
One of the two victims killed in the shooting was identified Monday as a student at Morton Ranch High School. Katy I.S.D. spokesman Steve Stanford said the student was a junior at the school.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened just before 11 p.m. at a birthday party in the 7300 block of Enchanted Creek Drive.
More than 100 people, mostly high school students, were at the scene when the gunfire started. Many fled the home in a panicked rush to escape. Sheriff Adrian Garcia said at least one of the gunshots was a celebratory one inside the house and was not directed at anyone in particular.
Two teens, an 18-year-old male and a 16-year-old female, were killed, while 19 others were injured during the shooting, Garcia said. The female teen died at the scene, while the male died at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital.
Others were injured as they pushed up against a garage door while trying to escape the home.
According to statements made Sunday by the sheriff's office, it was initially reported both victims killed in the shooting attended Cypress Springs High School. The other student killed in Saturday's shooting has not been identified.
