KFDM News - A Southeast Texas man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison after being found guilty Wednesday of sexual assault of a young girl. That girl is now 19.

William Simien has been referred to as a habitual criminal. That means he has multiples prior felonies, including felony assault.

He faced a maximum sentence of life in prison for the current sexual assault charges.

Today, he was sentenced to 55 years. Simien will be in his 70s before he's eligible for parole.

Judge John Stevens said cases like this are unfortunately all too common.

About a quarter of the cases in his court are sexual assault cases, many of them involving children.
