Eastex Freeway reopens after chain reaction collision

BEAUMONT - Beaumont Police are investigating the circumstances leading to a chain reaction collision that shut down part of the Eastex Freeway early Wednesday morning.

A dispatcher with the Beaumont Fire Department told KFDM News at least four vehicles were involved in the wreck shortly before midnight on Highway 69 North near Delaware Street.

The dispatcher said a total of 11 people were in the cars, but according to the Fire Department, only one was transported to a hospital. That person had non-life threatening injuries.

A number of tow truck drivers responded to the collision. They moved the vehicles off the Eastex Freeway and into the parking lot of Home Depot.

Once the wreckage was cleared away, police reopened the Eastex Freeway at about 12:30 a.m., about half an hour after the collision was first reported.
