Burglary suspect arrested
PRESS RELEASE - At 11:14 AM, on 11/1/2013, Beaumont Police were dispatched to the 4100 block of Dallas St. in Beaumont's north side, in reference to a burglary in progress. A neighbor of the residence being burglarized had called dispatch and gave a description of the suspect, so when officers got into the area they knew what to look for. Officers found the subject walking in the area and detained him. During the investigation, it was found that the suspect had tried to kick in the back door to a residence at 4195 Dallas. There was a muddy footprint on the door which matched the sole of the shoes the suspect was wearing.
The suspect could not gain entry through the door. The owner had barricaded it due to a recent burglary. The suspect then broke a window to make entry, but was apparently scared away by the witness who had called police.
The suspect was transported to the station and spoke with detectives. He confessed to this attempted burglary, and then rode around with detectives and admitted to and pointed out 14 other houses that he had burglarized.
He was then transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
SUSPECT: Byron Reese, 19 years old of Beaumont
