Groves man sentenced to 10 years for defrauding elderly California woman

A judge has sentenced a man to ten years in state prison.after prosecutors say he ripped- off an elderly woman and took most of her coin collection.

Judge John Stevens sentenced Bryson Cendejas of Groves for defrauding an 84-year-old California woman.

According to prosecutors she contacted him in April of 2010 to sell her gold and platinum coins.

The woman sent her collection to him he originally told her it was worth $1 million dollars Cendejas paid the woman $16 thousand dollars for the sale of 18 coins out of the 210 she sent.

He eventually stopped talking with her and didn't return the other coins and the woman never got them back. A grand jury indicted Cendejas last year.

Deputies didn't find him until June of this year when they followed up on a Crime Stoppers tip and found Cendejas hiding under a pile of clothes at a home in Groves.
