Jasper deputies find 17 animals in poor health in home following complaint

[Warning: Video contains potentially unsettling content.]

A neighbor in a Buna community was concerned about the well being of over a dozen animals and contacted authorities to check on them and her concerns were warranted.

Jasper County sheriff's officers went to the home and found nearly all of the 17 animals there in poor health, lacking shelter and water. Most were malnourished and some suffered from disease.

The home owner signed over rights to authorities to take the animals. Some of the animals were blind and others couldn't walk.

The woman who called in the complaint, Kathy Whales, knew something had to be done.
The dogs and cats were taken to a veterinarian. Nine of the 10 dogs had to be euthanized. All seven cats were euthanized as well.

The only surviving dog has been placed in the Jasper pound.
