Man arrested after displaying handgun at fast food restaurant
Note: The restaurant is located in the 5900 block of Eastex Freeway.
BEAUMONT POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE:
At 10:00 PM on Saturday, 11/2/2013, a man walked into Popeyes Chicken, at 4300 Dowlen and stood glaring at the drive-through window of the store.
He did not order food after he had been asked. When one of the employees told him they were about to close, he went outside to his truck and removed a large black handgun and placed it on top of his vehicle while looking at the employees inside.
Even though he did point the weapon at them, the employees feared he was about to start shooting at them through the store windows, so they went to the back of the store and called police. At this point, the man got back into his vehicle and fled west on Dowlen Rd.
By this time there were several Beaumont Police Officers in the area and the subject's vehicle, a 2010 silver Chevy Impala, was located. He was stopped and brought out of his vehicle.
The 9mm handgun was found inside his vehicle. The man was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County jail and charged with Unlawfully Carrying a Handgun, and Disorderly Conduct (displaying a firearm).
There was no clear explanation for his actions, but the subject may be having some type of mental or emotional problems. His weapon was taken from him and placed into B.P.D. property.
Suspect: Christian Cavinar Gary, 28, of Beaumont (pictured)
