Jasper's Christmas in the Park this Saturday
KJAS and Rayburn Broadcasting Company
The 3rd Annual Christmas in the Park will be held on Saturday at Sandy Creek Park on Marvin Hancock Drive in Jasper. The event is FREE, and features LIVE music, food, activities for children including Santa Claus and train rides, and a large fireworks show and the lighting of the Sandy Creek Park Christmas decorations.
Interim City Manager Denise Kelly says more lighted displays have been added to the park this year, and the decorations will now stretch all the way through the park from Marvin Hancock Drive to Main Street.
This year, the event will feature more LIVE music than in years past, with three different bands providing entertainment, and local singers and musicians performing Christmas music every hour, including an appearance by popular New Orleans singing star Cheryl Jamison, and also a group of Jasper High School students who call themselves "Band With A Purpose".
The day starts with the jazz band "J.A.G." at 11:00am, followed by the classic rock band "Who Dun It" at 2:00pm. The fireworks begin at 6:00pm, followed by the lighting of the park. However, the party is just starting after the fireworks. Texas swing and classic country band "The Sugar Moons" will hit the stage at 7:00, turning Sandy Creek Park into a huge outdoor honky tonk and dance hall.
