Man formally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

Investigators have formally charged a 25-year-old man with shooting his ex-wife's new boyfriend.

Derrick Matherson is in the Jefferson County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Today a judge set his bond at half a million dollars.

Police say Matherson fired shots at a car when his ex-wife and another man drove up to her home at about 5 a.m. yesterday morning in the 800 block of Peach Street.

The 29-year-old victim was hit once in the hip.

Paramedics took him to Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth. Police tell us his injuries aren't life threatening.

Officers arrested Matherson about half an hour after the shooting.
