Local Christmas tradition ending

KFDM News - A decades long Christmas tradition has come to an end.

Billie and Lela Wiese, of Beauxart Gardens, have ended their tradition of putting up thousands of Christmas lights during the Holiday Season.

The couple began the tradition in the mid-1970s. The display drew thousands of visitors. Mr. Wiese said his family enjoyed making people happy.

This year, the couple is thanking the community and others who came from far away to see the Christmas display. On Wednesday, the couple put up a sign thanking visitors for the joy they brought to the Wiese family.

Mr. Wiese said health issues and vandals who have stolen lights in recent years have forced him to end the tradition.
