Shoppers look for after-Christmas deals
BEAUMONT- by Haley Bull
The Parkdale Mall was packed with shoppers looking for post-holiday deals Thursday. According to surveys, the day after Christmas is the fifth busiest shopping day of the year. At the Beaumont mall, the proof was in the crowds.
Shoppers packed the building wall to wall looking for after Christmas sales.
Kim Woods was there shopping with her three grand daughters.
"They've got their three bags full yes they do," Woods said. The group is looking for good deals. "Things are really cheap after Christmas and I'm really surprised that we didn't have to wait that long this year."
Stores offered markdowns they hoped would boost sales. Discounts went as deep as 40, 50 and 75 percent off.
The sales weren't the only driving force behind the crowds, though. Shoppers came out to make returns and exchanges, and use gift cards.
"My boys, they got gift cards and money for Christmas," Kristy Curtis said. She was shopping with her family in J.C. Penney.
"The money's about burning a hole in their pocket," she said.
Larry Ketcherside was another shopper Thursday. He was visiting from Louisville with his two sons.
"We've been traveling quite a bit and they wanted to spend some time doing something together," Ketcherside said.
Thursday, that included shopping.
Different reasons brought people to the mall, driving shoppers to spend and stores to offer discounts.
