Southeast Texans celebrate World AIDS Day

BEAUMONT-By: KFDM NEWS

December 1st marks World Aids Day, a day to create awareness and unite others around the world in the fight against HIV.

The Center for Disease Control estimates nearly one in five of those living with aids in the U.S. are not aware that they are infected.

Members of the Legacy Community Health services along with other Southeast Texas groups provided Southeast Texans with free literature to inform others about AIDS.

The clinic also gave participants free HIV rapid tests and information.

Organizers say it's important to spread knowledge about a disease that effects more than one million Americans.

HIV remains mainly an urban disease, some of the hardest hit areas include Baton Rouge, Miami and New Orleans.
