Kwanzaa celebrations kicked off Thursday

KFDM News - Thursday marked the first day of Kwanzaa -- the week-long, non-religious holiday celebrating African-American culture.

To kick-off the event, children and their families spent time at the Port Arthur Public library to learn more about the holiday.

There are seven principle of Kwanzaa: Unity, self-determination, collective work, responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.

Kwanzaa runs through Jan. 1. It was first observed in 1966
