Police know identity of Rogers Park gunman; not random attack

Beaumont - From Beaumont Police Department

Police are trying to locate a suspect in a shooting that took place in Roger's Park at 5:54PM on Thursday 12/20/2013.

Police were told that two men were in the park playing basketball. Two other men drove into the park in different cars, One of the subjects was in a silver gray Impala, and the other in a gray Mitsubishi Eclipse. They approached the basketball players. After a few minutes the four were in a verbal argument which escalated into fist fight. According to witnesses, one of the men pulled out a small handgun and shot one of the basketball players in the leg, just below the knee cap. The two other men then got back into their cars and left the scene. A witness in the park followed one of the vehicles, the Eclipse, and called police. The vehicle was stopped by a patrol unit, but it is believed that the actual shooter was in the Impala. The driver of the Eclipse and another occupant agreed to go to the police station to speak with detectives.

The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital E.R. with non life threatening injuries.

At this time, the identity of the shooter is known, but the name is being witheld pending further investigation. It was found that all four of these subjects knew each other prior to this incident, so investigators are wanting to speak to all parties involved before taking further action.
