Judge gives teen probation for deadly DWI wreck
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- A North Texas juvenile court judge has sentenced a 16-year-old boy to probation for a drunken-driving crash that killed four people near Fort Worth last summer.
State District Judge Jean Boyd sentenced the teen Tuesday in Fort Worth. Prosecutors had sought the maximum 20 years behind bars for the Keller teen.
Authorities said the teen and friends were seen on surveillance video stealing two cases of beer from a store before the June 15 crash in southern Tarrant County. The teen's pickup truck on a rural road near Burleson slammed into four pedestrians, killing them. Dead were 43-year-old youth pastor Brian Jennings, 24-year-old Breanna Mitchell, 21-year-old Shelby Boyles and her 52-year-old mother, Hollie Boyles.
Defense attorneys said the teen needed treatment, not incarceration.
