Man in jail accused of shooting someone during domestic disturbance

A man is behind bars following a shooting in Beaumont. Police say a domestic disturbance led to the shooting in the 800 block of Peach Street, north of Interstate 10 and east of Magnolia.

Witnesses tell us the 29-year-old victim was shot in the hip at about 5 a.m. Monday morning in a car outside a home.

Investigators say his injuries are not life threatening.

A woman at the scene told police the suspect is her ex-husband, 25-year-old Derrick Gerard Matherson and the victim is her new boyfriend. The woman said when she and the other man showed up at her home, Matherson began shooting at their car and then drove away.

Officers found the suspect on Glasshouse Street about 30 minutes after the shooting.

Matherson is in jail charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
