Three separate aggravated robberies in one week
PORT ARTHUR - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
The Port Arthur Police Department is making headway in solving three aggravated robberies taking place within the span of a week.
Starting last Friday, police say a woman was robbed and subsequently stabbed in the hand while entering her vehicle at the Twin City Highway Wal-Mart.
On Tuesday, a meat market employee at Carniceria La Vaquita was confronted with a handgun by two men demanding money and three men robbed Minni by Vicki Hair and Nail Salon in the middle of the day.
The woman who was stabbed was treated at the scene and later released. None of the other victims received injuries.
Surveillance video captured the scene inside the hair and nail salon.
When they point at me and they tap my pants they see do I have money in my pocket, said shop owner Vicki Hoang.
Lt. Troy LeBouef with the Port Arthur Police Department says the holiday season is the time when thieves come out.
I hate to say it, but talking about the economy, unemployment, folks don't have a job possibly, they're looking for that quick fix, he said.
Despite the recent robberies, LeBouef says crime this time of year seems to be slightly lower than average.
He says as more people continue to make their way to the stores to finish their holiday shopping, its still important to watch their surroundings to avoid becoming a target.
If you see someone approaching you that looks suspicious or if you are the victim of a robbery, hit the alarm button, he said. Draw some attention to yourself.
