Bill Leger recognized at award luncheon

Dozens packed a ballroom inside the L'auberge Casino and Resort for the Fourth Annual Hector San Miguel award luncheon.

An advisory board selected former KFDM anchor Bill Leger as the award winner. Bill died in a traffic accident last December in southwest Louisiana.

Bill's father and widow accepted the award on his behalf and former KFDM anchor and current KBMT anchor Jackie Simien presented the award.

Leger, a native of Louisiana, started his career in Lake Charles before spending two decades in Southeast Texas. The award advisory board selected Bill unanimously.

The award goes to a person for a particular story, a certain amount of effort they've contributed or for a cumulative body of work in a person's career.

Bill is the second person to be honored posthumously. His family says they are extremely proud and miss him.
