After a few small showers pushed just north of the lakes, a quiet, but nice rest of the day is expected. Highs today will reach the lower 70's, under partly cloudy skies. Tonight will usher in the mid 50's for lows. Partly cloudy skies are back for Saturday and Easter Sunday, with highs warming to the upper 70's.
Diocese of Beaumont has settled a lawsuit with six men who say a priest sexually abused them when they were boys
BEAUMONT - The Diocese of Beaumont has settled a lawsuit with six men who say a priest sexually abused them when they were boys.
The plaintiffs say Ronald Bollich assaulted them 20 to 30 years ago. Bollich died in 1996. The plaintiffs argued the diocese should have known the priest had a propensity to molest boys.
According to a news release from the diocese, it can't reveal the amount of the settlement because the men wanted the information to remain confidential.
In a statement, Bishop Curtis Guillory says an attorney for the diocese advised that it had valid defenses to all of the claims.
However, the bishop said "all parties recognized that it would be in the best interest of all involved if the case could be resolved outside of the legal system."
The bishop says his decision to settle the lawsuit came after much prayer, consultation and reflection.
