Community comes together for vigil in Kountze

The school community and the community at large came together in Kountze to remember two students who died in an accident.

Keiron Edwards, 18-years-old, and 16-year-old Savion Smith died last Friday night. They were back seat passengers in a Kia.

State troopers say the driver was traveling south on Highway 69 and slowed to make a left turn near Hooks Cemetery Road. According to investigators the driver of a sport utility vehicle was traveling north and passing  another car, then stopped to make a left turn on the shoulder.

Troopers say the driver of the Kia sped up to avoid a collision but the SUV hit the rear passenger door.  The driver and front seat passengers survived.

Monday night the school district hosted a candlelight vigil at the Kountze High School gym.
