Man who killed mother must remain at Rusk

KFDM News -- State District Judge Bob Wortham has ordered a man found not guilty by reason of insanity in the killing of his mother to remain confined to Rusk State Hospital for at least another year.

Judge Wortham made the ruling Wednesday afternoon in the case of Millet Harrison, now 65. Harrison killed his mother, Louise, and dismembered her in February 1994 at her Beaumont home. She was 67-years-old.

Doctors diagnosed Harrison with paranoid schizophrenia and he's received court-ordered mental health services at a state psychiatric hospital since he was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Judge Wortham told KFDM News based on testimony from a hearing last week, he found there's no way to guarantee Harrison will take medication for his condition.

The judge also told us he made his decision to protect Harrison and the public.

Texas law requires a court to review Harrison's status each year.
