A man who was injured at a fire at his Jasper home on Thanksgiving morning of last year has died as the result of the injuries he received.

Clinton Collins, 86, who received severe burns when his clothes were set on fire by a heater died on Thursday of last week at the University of Texas Medical Branch on Galveston Island after undergoing weeks of treatment.

Firemen were called to Collins home in the 1900 block of North Bowie Street, shortly before 8:00, on that morning and arrived to find that his son, Joe Michael Collins, had already extinguished the fire and tore the burning clothes off his father.

The elderly Collins was taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, where he was treated before being transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Galveston.

Jasper City Fire Marshal Mike Collier said it appeared that Collins received 2nd degree burns to approximately 30 percent of his body.
