TxDOT to begin restoring historic Cow Bayou Bridge
Texas Department of Transportation
The project to restore the Cow Bayou Bridge on SH73 in Bridge City will begin Monday, Jan. 27. The $9.5 million restoration project will restore the nearly 73 year-old swing bridge to full working order.
Within the first few weeks of construction the bridge will have scheduled lane closures from 8:30am-3:00pm. Around mid to late February, all traffic will be transferred to the South bound bridge which will be restriped from three lanes to four lanes to accommodate North and Southbound traffic. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2015.
The two-lane bridge was built in 1941 and originally held north and south bound traffic. Cow Bayou Bridge was last opened for a boat to pass in 2003.
