Weather conditions cause controlled burn in Newton County

NEWTON COUNTY - The gusty winds and low humidity caused a controlled burn to spread out of control for about 90 minutes.

The Newton Fire Department says a crew was clearing land and burning piles of debris on P.W.A. Road when strong winds caused the flames to spread.

Two fire departments and the Texas Forest Service brought the fire under control after it scorched about six acres.
