A Chambers County Judge has set a one million dollar bond for 23-year-old Kristopher Redd.
He's charged with capital murder in the death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter.
Early Sunday morning deputies were called to a Winnie home in the 200 block of Elm.
First responders tried to revive the child, but could not.
The girl's mother, Jennifer Poole tells us they had only been in Southeast Texas for a couple of weeks, they had moved here from Central Texas.
Poole says had not been home very often because she was driving Redd's family around for errands.
Sunday morning she got an unthinkable call.
"She would always tell you she loved you and give you a kiss, that was her favorite thing to do is give you a kiss and tell you she loved you," Poole said.
A broken hearted mother shares what life was like with her two-year-old daughter, Daisy.
"Anytime she heard music she would sing along with it and just dance."
Poole describes life like anyone would with a happy energetic toddler.
"She had so much personality, I've never seen a baby with so much personality," Poole says.
A baby whose life came to an end early Sunday morning.
"He called me to tell me she fell of her high chair and the sheriff said that wasn't true," Poole said.
Poole had gone to Beaumont early Sunday morning to run some errands.
"And I got a call, a couple hours after we got there, I needed to get home because Daisy was going to the hospital," Poole said.
A medical call brought first responders to their home Sunday morning around nine... But for daisy.. it was too late.
"I don't get what they're saying because I've never seen him hurt them and if I thought he would, I would've left him," Poole says.
Poole's fiance Kristopher Redd is charged with capital murder, police say the child had signs of previous abuse.
"He said they fell off the bed and I believed him because I've picked them up off the floor when they've fallen off the bed, I've picked them up and when he told me they fell of the bed, I believed him, oh God I did," Poole says.
Now, Poole is left with many unanswered questions not knowing what to believe.
"I can't believe he would sit there and beat them and hit them, I can't believe he would kill my baby, I can't believe that," Poole said.
This young mother, with a child to bury and another in protective custody, is also 3-months pregnant.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the death of the of 2-year-old girl.
Additional charges could be filed.
