Man accused of leading Beaumont police on chase

BEAUMONT - A man is behind bars after leaving an accident scene and then leading Beaumont police on a chase.

The 34-year-old man from Louisiana turned into the wrong lane and headed south in a northbound lane. He then hit another car.

He drove away and led officers on a chase from MLK to Concord Street, running red lights but never traveling at more than 40 miles an hour.

Police used spike strips to stop him on Concord near Lucas, where police made the arrest. Officers say they found crack cocaine in the man's car.

He faces charges of felony evading arrest, felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor failure to stop and render aid.

The people he struck were not seriously hurt. Paramedics transported the suspect, who didn't appear to suffer major injuries, to a hospital.
