Port Arthur man accidentally shoots himself during New Year's celebration

PORT ARTHUR - A man accidentally shot himself in the foot while firing several rounds from a pistol to celebrate the New Year, according to Port Arthur Police.


Police were called to Christus Hospital St. Mary at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to talk to a man who was the victim of a shooting.


Officers say the 39-year-old man showed signs of intoxication and told them he was celebrating the New Year and fired several rounds with a small to medium caliber pistol. He accidentally shot himself in the right foot/ankle area. The victim's injuries aren't life threatening.


Police didn't file any charges nor make an arrest.
