Shane Howard stepping down as Tax Assessor-Collector

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Shane Howard tells KFDM News he'll step down as Jefferson County Tax Assessor-Collector, effective February 4.

Howard is the first Republican elected to county-wide office in Jefferson County in more than a century.

He's accepted a position with a Beaumont company. Howard is calling it a "once in a lifetime opportunity." The job will require him to move out of the area for a period of time.

Howard has held the Tax Assessor-Collector's job for a little more than three years.  His term is scheduled to expire at the end of 2016.

County commissioners will have to appoint someone to fill the remainder of his term.
