Two Hardin County teenagers killed Friday in car crash
HARDIN COUNTY -- UPDATED INFORMATION
PRESS RELEASE FROM DPS: January 3, 2014 at 9:28 p.m.
At approximately 4:40pm, there was a two vehicle crash on US 69 at Hooks Cemetery Road just South of Kountze in Hardin county.
According to the investigating Trooper, a 2013 Kia passenger vehicle was southbound on US 69. An unidentified vehicle was northbound on US 69.
The unidentified vehicle was stopped in the northbound traffic lane to make a left turn onto Colonial Road. The driver of the Kia was slowing down to make a left turn onto Hooks Cemetery Road.
As the driver of the Kia began to make the left turn, a 1994 Chevrolet SUV was passing the unidentified vehicle on the northbound shoulder of US 69.
The driver of the Kia tried to increase his speed to avoid the collision with the SUV, but was struck in the rear passenger door. The driver of the 2013 Kia, 17 year old Jacob Eppes of Kountze, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The front passenger, 17 year old Thomas Buller of Kountze, was also treated at the scene for minor injuries. The left rear passenger, 16 year old Savion Smith of Kountze, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The right rear passenger, 18 year old Keiron Edwards of Kountze, was transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth hospital where he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The driver of the 1994 Chevrolet, 62 year old John Delagarza of Beaumont, was not injured during the crash. This is an active crash investigation and there is no other details at this time.

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is confirming to KFDM News a traffic accident has killed one person.
Investigators are working the accident on Highway 69 near Hooks Cemetery Road. The accident was reported at about 5 p.m. Stay with KFDM News and www.kfdm.com for updates.
