Oklahoma considers ending institution of marriage
KFDM News - Lawmakers in Oklahoma are considering throwing out marriage in the state.
The effort is reportedly to keep same-sex marriage illegal. That's right, no more marriage for anyone.
Lawmakers have even gone so far as to say they want to strike down the state's same sex marriage ban because a law deregulating marriage would make it null in any case.
Our Fox correspondent in Oklahoma City sat down with one state representative and a civil rights leader.
Read what they had to say:
STATE REP. MIKE TURNER says: "They're willing to have that discussion about whether marriage needs to be regulated by the state at all."
Reporter: "Would it be realistic for the state of Oklahoma to say 'we're not going to do marriage period?
TURNER says:" That would definitely be a realistic opportunity, and that's something that would be part of the discussion."
RYAN KIESEL / WITH OKLAHOMA'S A-C-L-U says: "I think that, especially with issues like this, they're out of touch with most Oklahomans."
KIESEL says:" Five years from now wee are going to look back at legislative efforts like this as inconsistent with the right side of history."
KIESEL says: "Moving forward I think we'll see less efforts like this."
