Getz, BISD attorneys reach agreement on May 2015 school board elections
BEAUMONT - by Scott Lawrence
Attorneys representing the Beaumont Independent School District have reached an agreement with Michael Getz and other lawyers on a plan to hold board elections in May 2015, according to information Getz provided to KFDM News.

They reached agreement prior to a scheduled hearing Thursday morning in Judge Donald Floyd's courtroom.
Getz says he expects the election to follow a 5-2 plan voters approved several years ago, in which five board members would represent single-member districts and two would represent at-large seats, replacing the seven single-member district plan.
Getz told us attorneys representing BISD will present and recommend the proposal to school board members for their approval during their February 6 meeting.
Getz says the agreement makes sense because he believes Judge Floyd doesn't have the authority to order an election.
Getz says if Floyd were to have ordered an election on any date, including May 2014, either said could have contested the election results and Getz believes that side would win in court and succeed in voiding the results, thus wasting tens of thousands of dollars that would be spent on an election.
Getz says he believes an election will be moot because he thinks the Texas Education Agency will take over the district and appoint a board of managers to run BISD instead of trustees.
The TEA has been investigating several areas within the district but hasn't issued a final report.
KFDM left a message for comment with the office of BISD attorney Melody Chappell.
