Funeral services set for both Kountze HS students killed in collision
KOUNTZE - Funeral services are set for one of two Kountze High School students killed in a collision on Highway 69.
The funeral service for Savion Smith, 16, and Keiron Edwards, 18, will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11 at the Kountze High School auditorium. Coleman Funeral Home is overseeing the services for Smith and Broussard's is handling arrangements for Edwards. The two funeral homes are working together on the service.
Smith and Edwards were killed Friday, January 3. Troopers say they were rear passengers in a Kia. The driver was traveling south on U.S. 69 and slowed down to make a left turn onto Hooks Cemetery Road. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, when the driver of the Kia began to turn, the driver of a SUV traveling north was passing another car on the shoulder. Troopers say the driver of the Kia sped up to avoid the collision but the SUV hit the Kia in the rear passenger door, killing both Smith and Edwards.
