Vigil to be held in Kountze for students who died in traffic accident

People in Kountze will hold a candle-light vigil tonight for two high school students killed in a traffic accident.

DPS troopers say 18-year-old Keiron Edwards and 16-year-old Savion Smith were riding in the backseat of a Kia.

The driver was going south on U.S. 69 and slowed down to make a left turn onto Hooks Cemetery Road. As the Kia began to turn, an SUV traveling northbound was passing another car on the shoulder.

The Kia sped up up to avoid the collision, but the SUV hit it in the rear passenger door, killing both Smith and Edwards.

The community will hold a candle-light vigil for the students killed begining at 6 p.m. at the Lion's Den.
