Some BISD teachers offended by faculty meeting notes to educators
BEAUMONT - Some BISD teachers are offended by faculty meeting notes to educators.
A number of teachers at West Brook High School sent KFDM News a copy of notes handed out during a faculty meeting held Wednesday.
At the top of the page, it says: "Dr. Chargois administration meeting notes."
Sources within the district tell us that BISD superintendent Dr. Chargois met with top administrators including principals on Tuesday.
In the notes, Dr. Chargois points out that the BISD budget is less than the budget a year ago, and that spending has increased. He noted a possible budget deficit this next year.
He goes on to say that if faculty members' agenda isn't aligned with BISD and becomes personal, those faculty members become a non-team member with worth. To elaborate he uses a quote from Dr. King: "If we don't work together as brothers and sisters for a common cause we will perish together as fools."
A few things Dr. Chargois does spell out in an effort to help with expenses in the new year include possible stipends for summer work as opposed to hourly pay for curriculum writing and summer activities as well as rule and procedural changes that deal with financial matters.
Also, all staff was reminded that all requests from the media must be first approved by the communications team.
At the end of the note -- under West Brook items -- the staff at West Brook was thanked for a great first semester.
The notes went on to say, you are West Brook and BISD. If you don't like working here, make your life more peaceful and move.
We contacted Beaumont Board Trustee Mike Neil about the notes and he was shocked.
We contacted BISD for comment and while Dr. Chargois did site a quotation from Dr. Martin Luther King in his meeting with administrators, Nakisha Miles with the communications department tells KFDM News that the notes provided for the West Brook faculty meeting were not sent or typed by Dr. Chargois.
