The next cold front will move through our area Tuesday with a good coverage of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Some rainfall totals to around one inch will be possible in the heavier cells. Colder air will return Tuesday night into Thursday.
Closures, delays concerning government and other services
The City of Beaumont will not have garbage, bulk trash, or yard waste collection Tuesday or Wednesday. Pick ups will resume on Thursday and run two days behind. Tuesday's collection will be on Thursday and Wednesday's collection will be on Friday. The landfill is closed Tuesday and will reopen at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The City of Vidor is closing City offices from Tuesday at noon until Wednesday at noon. The Sanitation Department is still planning on picking up Wednesdays route but they will start later in the day. Nevertheless, customers should have their cans out at the normal time.
Based on indicated weather and road conditions, the city manager for the City of Port Arthur has directed non-essential personnel to report to work at 1 p.m. Wednesday unless otherwise authorized by the Department Head. Regular transit operations will begin at noon. Elderly and handicapped services will be available on a case by case basis prior to noon and will resume standard operations after that time.
Beaumont Transit: Public transportation is shutting down for the day Tuesday. They will determine transportation tomorrow morning.
A decision was made to reopen all Jefferson County Offices at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 29, 2014. If conditions do not improve enough tomorrow morning for roads to properly clear, then that 1:00 opening could change. Due to the current winter weather event causing unsafe travel conditions, the following Texas Department of Public Safety Offices will be closed all day Tuesday: Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Newton, Jasper, Tyler, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Nacogdoches, Angelina, Houston, Trinity, Polk, San Jacinto, Liberty and Walker counties The Texas Department of Public Safety will continue to monitor the changing weather conditions through the night and make a determination as to exactly when the DPS offices in the above stated Counties will re-open to the public.
