Deputies: Car stopped on I-10 in Beaumont had quarter of a million dollars worth of heroin in it

KFDM News - A man who said he'd been visiting an 86-year-old friend at Texas Children's Hospital didn't do himself any favors with that statement to a deputy.

They stopped his car on I-10 near Ford Park on Monday for a traffic violation. Then, investigators say, they they discovered more than six pounds of heroin -- worth about a quarter of a million dollars.

Deputies say they found the drugs after asking the man about his travel. Investigators say he told them that he was returning to Virginia after visiting his 86-year-old friend at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

Deputies say the driver appeared nervous and allowed them to search his car. That's when, they say, they found the heroin in a satchel in the back seat.
