$831,000 settlement in Pearson lawsuit against Jasper

JASPER - The City of Jasper and fired police chief Rodney Pearson have reached a settlement of more than $800,000 in a civil lawsuit Pearson filed against the city.


The city hired Pearson in February 2011. He was Jasper's first African-American police chief. Council voted 4-1 to fire him in June 2012, citing his job performance.


Pearson sued and this week the two sides reached a settlement.


According to the Bernsen law firm, which represents Pearson, the city agreed to pay him $831,000.
