Port Arthur launches app
PORT ARTHUR - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
The City of Port Arthur has launched a mobile app that allows citizens to report problems in the city.
There's also just general information city officials, we're trying to put the calendar up there, oh, you can click on the button to pay your traffic fine or water bill, so if you're out and about and you forgot to pay your water bill and traffic fine, you can do it from your cell phone, said the citys IT manager, Fay Young.
Since 2009, city leaders have been researching different companies to partner with for an app that would fit the city.
Young says the city ultimately decided to go with Port Arthur Synergy through PublicStuff because it serves as a source of information.
Port Arthur does not have a centralized information call center like 311.
She said the app will provide a way for residents to send their concerns to the appropriate person.
It comes with voice translation to support 17 languages and requests will be examined within four days.
We want you to know that when you submit an issue, that its not going to go in a black hole and disappear. Someone will take care of it, Young said.
The app allows anyone to snap a picture of a problem area, provide a description of the problem and send it off.
Its easier, Young said. I mean, a couple of clicks and you can submit your issue.
The app is available on Android and iPhone for free.
